The City of Chester whilst steeped in its historical legacy is a City that has a vibrancy in step with the 21st Century.
The Eastgate Clock (pictured here) is a symbol of the City and is second only to Big Ben as the most photographed was given to the City by a Chester Freeman in the Victorian era.
The beautiful sandstone Cathedral has been a landmark for centuries and the unique Chester Rows and the Black & White timbered properties make it a ‘must see’ place on everyone’s list of ‘things to do’.
Whilst visiting the City why not take the delightful walk through the Chester Groves alongside the River Dee spanned by the attractive ancient seven arched stone Dee Bridge (paid for by the Medieval Freemen of Chester) and the Suspension Bridge leading to the Meadows.
You can take a boat trip up the river or stroll along to the City Park set beside the ancient Hermits Cell and the Church of St John with its romantic ruins and enjoy the attractive walks and colourful flower beds.
‘Shopperholics’ will find most of the major stores in the City. There are a great many jewellery shops, shoe shops and specialist stores.
Eating out in the City is a very enjoyable experience with Restaurants, Bistros and outdoor cafes all providing an enjoyable experience alongside some specialist food restaurants. Many of the restaurants are child friendly and welcome families.
The City also plays host to German, French and Traditional Markets right throughout the year.
Traditional Civic Occasions still tale place within the City. In July there is the Mid Summer Watch, Parade of Giants, The Lord Mayors’ Parade, The Raft Race and many others.
